Snow Business

Prepare yourself for the biggest shock in UK history… IT SNOWED! Haha joke, the biggest shock is that the company I work for CLOSED every branch in the Red Weather Warning zone(Scotlands Central belt) Closing for weather, that is unheard of!!

I was sent home on Wednesday just before 3pm and my branch remained closed until Saturday. I work Monday to Friday so that gave me a super long weekend! YAHHHHH! Here’s how it went down.

Day 1

•Attempted to dig my car out then realised that even if I get it off the driveway I’d have to dig the whole street to actually get anywhere…not happening!

•Read on Facebook that it’s snowing (why do people post the weather??)

•Hear a banging from next door so go to check my elderly neighbour is ok. When he answers the door promptly and looking well, I get all flustered and lie ‘I’m going to the shop would you like anything?’ (I’ve no intention of walking anywhere the snow is at my knees, I fell twice just getting to his door) ‘Potatoes’ he said, ‘would you get me a bag of potatoes and 2 litres of milk? thanks’.

•Off to the shop I go! Could he have chosen anything heavier!!! It was the toughest workout I’ve done in a while. Good deed done for the day!

•Make hot chocolate to warm up and watch 3 episodes of Sex and the City (still don’t know why she chose Big over Aiden?!)

•Decide to stop being lazy and do the laundry, vacuuming and clean the bathrooms.

• What now?

•Watch snow falling

•Cup of tea and FaceTime my sister and nieces.

•Make lunch, clean up poached egg that just exploded all over the microwave.

•Look at stuff that needs done for the wedding, decide it can wait.

•Make another cup of tea, FaceTime other sister.

•What now?

• Watch snow falling

•Do Yoga with Adrienne

Kevin comes home*

•Have dinner/watch snow falling

•Drink a bottle of prosecco whilst binge watching Lovesick on Netflix (very funny, recommendation from Quinn)

Day 2

•Wide awake at 4am, was that thunder? Or snow falling of the roof? It was thunder! I hate thunder!

•Can’t sleep!

•Workout but really want to go for a run

•Have a bath with a lush bath bomb

•Make soup, realise I need onions, back to the shop I go, witness fight over the last carton of milk in a 20 mile radius.

•Eat soup

•What now

•Extreme boredom sets in and I resort to baking blueberry muffins, which were delicious even if I do say so myself.

•Have a cup of tea and blueberry muffin.

•What now- look out to see if I can go for a run yet. Nope!

•Send SOS on Facebook – Cabin Fever is setting in as I now decide to…. Make bread, which turns out not so delicious and maybe slightly burnt.

•Cup of tea and FaceTime who ever will answer.

•Order clothes that I don’t need online, that probably won’t get delivered until spring!

•Take a wander outside to see if I can go for a run. Nope.

•Start panicking that Alloa Half Marathon is in 2 weeks and I haven’t trained. At all!

•Put off doing wedding stuff again

•Have another cup of tea

•Organise underwear drawer… pyjama drawer….workout clothes drawer…. make-up drawer…

•Make Tea eat another muffin, or two.

•Laugh at the competitive parents building igloos on Facebook, apparently snowmen are ‘so last winter!’

•Go outside to check running conditions again. Nope!

•Contemplate knocking all the neighbours doors to see if they have a treadmill I can use, decide to have a cup of tea instead.

•Kevin comes home with a 4×4 and says the main roads are clear, we can go out!!!

•Have dinner

•Visit my sister and the twins. Somehow agree to staying to look after the twins all day on Saturday.

Snow days are exhaustingly, boring but turn you into a domestic goddess, make you gain 4lb…and lose a few pounds internet shopping!

Stay tuned for Red Weather Warning 2.0 -Flood Edition (it’s raining and all that snow is melting fast!)

    1. Haha!
Yeah I have to be honest I felt rather guilty because all my nurse/doctor/hospital worker friends were still having to make their way to work while I overdosed on tea!

  1. My life has been full of snow days (and typhoon days…but that was in Japan). Actually right now, we haven’t got any snow at all–which is rather weird, and unlikely to last until spring.
Typically snow days here are pretty much how you described, except for the fight over food or milk….beer maybe, but not basic food stuff. Most of us have overstocked kitchens/pantries/freezers.
Loved the post. I felt like I was there too.

    1. Haha it would seem we are the opposite here, we have our beer well stocked but all hell breaks loose if they can’t get fresh bread and milk everyday!
We have snow every winter but not very much at all a few inches at most it’s been 7 years since we had this much snow! Thanks for reading!

  2. Snow days are the best!!! As a child, I’d spend them outside playing in the snow or just enjoying the time off school, and as an adult, it’s hot chocolate, movies, and books. But as an adult, I don’t get too many snow days haha. Especially since I’m a nanny and live a 2-minute walk from work. Even if the kids have a snow day, I’d still need to go to work

    1. I don’t remember having snow days before, even from school, maybe one or two! The last time we had more than a few inches of snow, it took me 2 hours to get to work (usually 15 mins) and they didn’t send us home then! Its a pretty new concept to me, I quite like it! 🙂

  3. I hate snow days now. I just feel like I need to be doing stuff! Although your 2 days sounded kind of nice. Especially the tea and organizing. I like that your neighbor actually wanted something from the store, haha. I didn’t know you had another half marathon coming up! I hope it goes well!

    1. Yeah I’ve not really been mentioning the Half Marathon much as I haven’t really trained much and might not actually run it!
I know haha! It was just the first thing that came to my head when he answered!
I’m loving how organised everything is now 🙂

  4. I manage accounts at my job, and one of them is based in the UK! They were all telling me about the random snow storm they got. 🙂 How funny! I’m sorry that your snow days bored you, where I live – we have only had one snow storm all winter – and I was inside a windowless building so I missed a majority of the peaceful fall! I did check the forecast this morning, though, and we show 3 days of snow fall next week! Amid your boredom came this post, and for that – I’m grateful! Good hearing about your life – .xo. !
